Rustic Wedding Ideas ~ Tree Slices, Bark Vases, Hessian Runners {Real Wedding}

Jenny and Matt were married at Packington Moor, a beautiful rustic barn venue. We love how they used our wooden tree slices, bark vases, tea light holders and hessian runners and bunting to style their rustic wedding.

If you are having a barn wedding and looking for rustic wedding ideas see how Jenny and Matt used our decorations on their tables and around the room.

Cream Jugs for Bridesmaids Bouquets

To keep the bridesmaids bouquets as fresh as possible when they were not being held by the bridesmaids they were displayed in our distressed cream jugs. This created extra floral decorations which were used around the barn.

Flowers in wooden crates

At the entrance to the barn Jenny and Matt chose to have a stack of wooden crates filled with beautiful blooms. These crates look lovely here with hydrangeas, lisinathus, nigella and roses.

Top Table – Just Married Hessian Bunting

Along the top table were a mix of bark vases and jam jars decorated with hessian filled with pretty blooms. They were spread out along the full length of the top table on one of our hessian table runners with a lace overlay. In front of the top table hung our hessian just married bunting – we think this is a fab idea.

Tree Slice And Bark Vases – Rustic Wedding Centrepieces

For the centrepieces Jenny and Matt used our wooden bark vases on top of a wooden tree slice to complete the rustic look. The bark vases look lovely here used with dusky pink roses, nigella, hydrangeas and astrantia. A couple of bark tea light holders finished off the centrepiece. We have also spotted our bud vase card holders holding their table name cards.

How To Make Hessian Table Runners

For rustic wedding themes and country wedding themes many of our brides get in touch asking how to make hessian table runners. Recently the lovely girls at Save The Date Magazine put up a blog post showing how to make hessian place mats and I thought it would be useful for you as the same principles apply. Thanks to Love Me Sew and Emily Carlill for putting together the step by step images.

how do I make a hessian table runner

Hessian table runners look fab running along long guest tables or round guest tables, laying the runner over a standard linen table cloth will immediately transform the look of the table adding a rustic or more natural and laid back feel. This step by step guide shows you how to make hessian runners (place mats) lined with lace, for a more rustic look you may choose not to add the lace and may even prefer just to cut the hessian into strips leaving the edges frayed.

How To Make Hessian Table Runners

Supplies Needed

how to make hessian table runners

  1. Cut out the hessian fabric to the correct size. For a runner we recommend 30 cm width. If you are using the lace as a place mat or square of hessian to go in the centre of your table choose an appropriate size.
  2. Pin the lace ribbon along one straight edge of your hessian fabric, over lapping the hessian fabric slightly.
  3. At the corner of the fabric turn 90 degrees and continue along the straight edge.
  4. In the corner the lace ribbon will bulge, pinch it togther and lie flat diagonally against itself pinning it into place.
  5. When you get back to where you started cut off the excess lace.
  6. With your sewing machine sew the lace ribbon to the hessian fabric where they meet, secure the lace in the corners by sewing along the diagonal fold you created.
  7. To neaten up your hessian runner iron the fabric, use a cool iron on the lace* If you don’t want to line your runner with lace ribbon just fold the hessian back on itself to make a hem and sew along the edge – alternatively just cut the fabric leaving a frayed edge.

If you are thinking of making a hessian table runner we supply hessian fabric by the meter as well as lace ribbon. We also supply ready made hessian table runners if you have run out of time to make one yourself. You may also like our other rustic wedding decorations and woodland wedding decorations.

Hessian Wedding Ideas {Wedding Decoration Inspiration}

We love rustic style weddings here at The Wedding of my Dreams, whether they are in barn wedding venues, tipi’s, old farms or at home. Using rustic décor to create a relaxed outdoorsy, rustic setting for your wedding is one of my personal favourites. We have recently started selling hessian / burlap fabric as part of our range of rustic themed wedding decorations. Hessian can add lovely details and finishing touches, if you’re stuck for ideas we have gathered some hessian wedding inspiration below.

Use long lengths of hessian / burlap to create table runners along your tables. Whether you are having long tables or round guest tables the hessian table runners add an extra dimension to your décor. Let the ends of the runners hang loose or tie with twine or ribbon. Hessian table runners can be left with frayed edges if you are only using once – this adds to the rustic styling. If you will be using them many times we suggest you edge the runners.

Add hessian details to your wedding tables, tie hessian around napkins. You can even print onto hessian to create personalised table runners. Print or paint table numbers on to the runners to label each table.

Hessian / Burlap makes truly rustic wedding chair back. Just cut long lengths of the fabric and tie around the bride and grooms chair to make them special. Add a small bundle of gypsophilia for a final finishing touch.

As the bridesmaid walk town the aisle in front of the bride ask them to carry a personalised sign. Hessian signs saying here comes the bride are a lovely touch. You can paint this on yourself or print on to iron on fabric transfers.

Create a beautiful backdrop for your wedding ceremony from strips of hessian. Hang from wooden branches and let the hessian drape creating a lovely backdrop, this could be moved from the ceremony to behind your top table so you can use it more than once in the day.

Why not make personalised signs from hessian. This thank you sign can be used as a prop on the wedding day. Ask your photographer to take a photo and use it on your thank you cards. hessian signs
