Reasons You Need A Roll Of Twine For Your Rustic Wedding

Here at The Wedding Of My Dreams we are certainly partial to a rustic wedding. There is something seriously special about a natural, homespun celebration. And we believe that no rustic wedding is complete without lots of twine details. A roll of twine is the perfect way to add a rustic touch to your wedding décor.

You can use twine from everything to your stationery to your centrepieces! It’s time to get creative and find out how you can use a roll of twine on your wedding day…

Wedding Bouquet And Buttonholes

Using a roll of twine in your wedding bouquet will really make your flowers stand out and it will be a unique alternative. Wrap the twine around the stems of your bouquet – you could even add a few other touches, such as a locket or a mini photo frame. Make sure your groom doesn’t miss out on all the fun! Twine can be used for buttonholes too – simply wrap a small strand of twine around the stem of his buttonhole for a fab finishing touch to his outfit.

Hanging Decorations

A roll of twine is strong enough to hold vases and bottles brimming with bright, beautiful blooms. If you’re having your wedding outside hang vases from the trees or by your venue entrance. You could even hang the twine along your ceremony aisle – it’ll look stunning!

Wedding Favours

Are you stuck for ideas when it comes to your wedding favours? There are plenty of ways to make your favours look fabulous. Wrap a roll of twine around homemade jars of jam or chutney for a wonderful countryside style. I love the thought of wrapping seed packets in brown rustic paper and tying with a twine bow. It’ll fit in with a rustic wedding flawlessly, and your guests will take away favours they’ll actually appreciate!

Table Centrepieces

Jars and vases full of pretty floral arrangements make wonderful table centrepieces. You can up-cycle a plain glass jar by wrapping twine and lace ribbon around the brim. It’ll add something extra and will match the rest of your wedding décor perfectly.

Wedding Stationery

Why not kick-start your rustic wedding theme with your stationery? A roll of twine will go beautifully with any style or design – whether it’s simple and white, or colourful and floral.

Roll Of Twine Bunting

You can make your own bunting using a roll of twine. Personalise your wedding day by hanging polaroid photographs with wooden pegs on twine, and drape around your wedding venue. Consider including photographs of your guests – they’ll find it great fun spotting themselves on your memory wall. If you’re lucky enough to have a polaroid photo-booth, create a new string of twine for your guests to stick their photographs on during the big day. You’ll have your very own wedding bunting and it’ll be great entertainment.

Jazz up your place settings by wrapping twine around your napkins and cutlery. Add a sprig of lavender or greenery for an organic feel. This is such a budget-friendly idea that will make your place settings look beautiful.

Rustic Table Plan

A roll of twine can easily be used to create your wedding table plan. Drape twine from a wooden crate or even a ladder, and add your seating plan cards using wooden pegs. Dot a few vases of blooms on the ladder and voila! You’ve got yourself a gorgeous rustic table plan.

Ideas For Hanging Vases

Hanging vases full of floral delights bring in a lot of colour and personality to your wedding venue. If your wedding is based outdoors, there are tons of different ways you can incorporate this idea into your décor.

Even if your ceremony and reception is based indoors, it’s likely that guests will wander out into the sunshine in the evening. Dress up the outside by hanging a handful of vases from the branches of trees. It’s important to make sure the outside of your venue looks beautiful, even if the majority is based inside.

If you’re lucky enough to be having your wedding breakfast outside, use hanging vases as an elevated table centrepiece. Base your tables under trees if possible and attach the vases full of flowers to the trees. This is such a unique, unusual idea that your guests won’t have seen before and it’s a great way to get everyone talking. Plus, if the tables are under the trees your guests will be able to stay cool in the shade during the scorching heat of the day.

Another way of using hanging vases at your Summer wedding day is by using them as a backdrop. They’re an incredible backdrop for your wedding photographs. Why not hang them behind your wedding cake or dessert table? Match the colours of your chosen flowers to your wedding cake and tasty treats for a look that is completely coordinated.

Mix and match with hanging vases containing tea lights too. The variety of flowers and candles will look beautiful and glowing in the evening. If you wanted a style that looks natural and a little mismatched, shake things up by using a mixture of jam jars, mason jars and vases. You can turn jam jars, bottles and vases into hanging vases yourself by tying twine or wire around the lip at the top of the jam jar and creating a loop to hang from – see our blog post .

You can get really creative when it comes to dressing your vases. Lace ribbon looks beautiful wrapped around a vase and is perfect if you want an elegant wedding style. Hessian ribbon or natural twine is a great choice if you’re having a rustic or woodland wedding, and will fit in beautifully with your surroundings. Inject a splash of colour by using colourful ribbon to hang the vases from the trees with. It’s so easy to blend the vases into your colour scheme with the colour of the ribbon.

Hanging vases look fab if they’re hung from a variety of different heights, and it makes the décor look absolutely effortless. If you’ve not got many trees surrounding your wedding venue, fear not! Source as many shepherd hooks as you need, and plant them into the ground instead. Alternatively, add a few nails to a plank of wood that can be hung up somewhere – that would look gorgeous behind your dessert table.

The flowers you choose for the vases are incredibly important. Natural, wild flowers are perfect if you’ve opted for a country or English garden theme. However, roses or peonies are beautiful for an elegant affair. Be sure that they tie in with the rest of your wedding flowers, even if you are doing this bit yourself, as you don’t want them to be too contrasting.

Dahlias Wedding Flowers ~ Get To Know Your Wedding Flowers

We have taken a little break from our flower posts recently as Karen over at Passion for Flowers has been super busy with the summer weddings. This week we are back with everything you need to know about having dahlias as wedding flowers. Dahlias work well for summer weddings and come in different shapes, sizes and colours so can suit many styles of weddings.

Over to Karen of Passion for Flowers to tell us more.

What season are dahlias available in?

Dahlias are available from July to November. British grown dahlias are great for brides wanting to use home grown flowers.

What style of wedding do dahlias work with?

Dahlias are an old fashioned garden flower which is now very much in vogue, great for a country garden wedding, rustic or just picked natural look. I first fell in love with dahlias when enjoying The Cutting Garden courses at Perch Hill with Sarah Raven.

Would dahlias look good in a bridal bouquet?

At Passion for Flowers we love using dahlias in bridal bouquets, the soft blush shades of Wizard of Oz Dahlia are perfect in mixed bouquets for a country garden look with soft roses, lisianthus, astrantia and hypericum berries. For a just picked or hedgerow style bouquet then opt for large cream dahlia with a mix of grasses, veronica, campanula and foliage.  Wizard of Ox Dahlias also combine well with blousy illusion roses, eupatorium, and veronica hand tied with twine.

How can dahlias be used as table centre pieces?

Dahlias are wonderful flowers for table centrepieces in wooden vessels or troughs for a rustic look, display in china or metal jugs with a mix of other garden flowers for a country garden wedding. They are just perfect for last minute touches adding to bottles using any spare flowers around to create a relaxed grouping.

What colours do dahlias come in?

Dahlias come in a wonderful array of colours ranging from white and cream through to very dark burgundy. Oranges are gorgeous to create a warm autumn feeling and a mix of shades of pink perfect for high summer weddings. Dahlia ‘Chat Noir’ is a wonderful deep tone.

Where else can I use dahlias at my wedding?

Dahlias are very versatile and look great added to pots in a country garden table plan, they make great informal posies or jam jar pew ends. Try using a large dahlia as a simple but effective cake topper.

If you are having escort cards then add a few large dahlia heads as a splash of colour as they are available in such an array of colours there is sure to be one to suit your wedding.

We love using dahlias as single stems; they are one of our favourite flowers for adding to hanging bottles in the garden outside a marquee or country house hotel particularly if dahlias are growing in the garden!

Do you have any conditioning tips for using dahlias.

Dahlias should have all foliage in contact with water removed; as the heads can shatter easily they should be handled with care and benefit from occasional misting with water. They need flower food and should have the water changed daily, ideally with the stems re-cut each time to prolong vase life.

As dahlias can be attractive to insects do remember to shake out the flower gently just in case one is hiding.
