Drinks tables are often styled in a quirky, bright or rustic setting, we love the elegant feel to this set up. The drinks dispensers are positioned at different heights on the table to add interest and gold vases and gold candelabra are used to create an elegant setting. Pretty votives and flowers complete the look. Photography by Marie Marry Me.

Top tips for decorating your wedding venue put together by @theweddingomd

To get started with your venue decorations have a look at our top tips.

  1. Think about where your guests will spend most of their time at the venue. Decorate key areas but don’t decorate unnecessarily, spend your budget wisely and make sure your decorations will be seen by as many people as possible.
  2. Is there anything that would help your guests out on the day? A schedule of the day perhaps so they know what is happening when, if so this could be incorporated into your decor. For large venues where guests could get lost, directional signage could be incorporated into your venue decor. These decor items will be both useful and pretty.
  3. The last but most important tip to always keep in the forefront of your mind when planning your decorations, is make sure everything you choose fits in with your overall wedding style. This will give a cohesive look to your whole day and your wedding will look beautifully styled.

Drinks Station Wedding Checklist

Are you hoping to set up a drinks station at your wedding? Wondering what exactly you need to make it happen, we have created a checklist showing what you will need. If you are just in the early planning stages of your wedding this is the perfect opportunity to pin it now, read it later!

First things first, choose a location

  • Outside – make sure it’s in the shade.
  • Inside – choose somewhere easy for your guests to access.
  • Set up a table – either take a vintage dresser to your venue or use one of their tables.
  • Dress the table with a table cloth or table runner if desired.

Something to hold the drinks

  • We love drinks dispensers, easy to fill and for guests to help themselves and re-fill their glasses.
  • Depending on the number of guests and number of drinks you are offering you may need a few of these on your table.
  • Dispensers work best when raised up so guests can fit their glass under the tap, try a couple of tree slices for a rustic look or a pastel coloured cake stand.

Glasses and straws

  • You will need to supply guests with glasses to drink from, these could be supplied by your venue or caterers or you could opt for something a little different and use mason jars or bottles for your drinks.
  • Add a paper straw for a little fun.

Fresh Fruit

  • Depending on the drinks you are offering perhaps some fresh strawberries, blueberries or raspberries would be a nice touch, guests can add these themselves.
  • Or use fruit to introduce colour or a styling element for your drinks station as crate full of peaches or lemons and limes looks lovely.

Signs

  • How about making your own signs, these could label the drinks you have on offer or create a bar menu.

Take A Treat – Wedding Dessert Table

As you will probably know Gemma write for Save The Date Magazine, this issue her article was about how to create a wedding dessert table. Read the magazine online here.

save the data magazine take a treat - wedding dessert tables

Do you and your other half LOVE cakes and sweet treats? If the answer to that question is yes then having a dessert table or sweet station at your wedding might be just up your street.

Dessert tables are eye catching, economical and can fit in with any colour scheme or theme you have chosen for your wedding. You can either enlist the help of an expert or create your dessert table or sweet station yourself.

How many sweets will I need?

If you are going to create a dessert table yourself this article will be a useful source of inspiration. To start with you will need to work out how many sweets to buy, this will depend on the number of guests you are having. The event industry standard is approximately ½ pound (or 8 ounces) per person, some may take more and others may take less but this is a good guide for the least amount of sweets you need.

What sort of cake plates or glass candy jars should I use?

Next you will need to decide what types of containers you are going to display your sweets, desserts and cakes in. This will depend on the types of desserts you choose and your overall wedding style. Some desserts such as doughnuts and cakes look better on cake plates or in trays whereas marshmallows and smaller sweets suit glass jars. Depending on your style you could choose glass candy jars, rustic tree slices, vintage crockery, the list is endless and cakes and sweets can always be decorated with little flags if you wish. For a styled look keep all the desserts to a set colour palette, you can choose different shades or different colours but keeping to a set palette will look stunning.

 Drinks station instead?

If you are not so keen on the idea of desserts or want something similar for guests to help themselves from earlier in the day a drinks station might be more appropriate. Set up large drinks dispensers filled with signature cocktails and let guests help themselves.
